We welcome to join us at NUPE 2023, which is the second meeting within the network “Nordic Urban Political Economy”. The meeting will take place online on 6-7 June, 9.30-16.30 CET.
The main idea of NUPE is to provide a forum for discussing and commenting on each other’s work covering urban political economy, as well as urban political ecology in the Nordics. The aim is to enable sharing of experiences and making comparisons of ongoing changes in the Nordic countries. As for the first meeting, we invite papers adopting a critical approach to urban political economy/ecology scrutinizing neoliberal urban transformations in the context of the Nordic welfare states at the national, regional and local scales. We welcome contributions on a broad array of topics, in particular, but not limited to contributions focusing on varieties of urban entrepreneurialism, restructuring of the local state, state rescaling, sustainability, green economy, and financialisation of built environments, including housing, real estate, and infrastructure. The presentations will be grouped into thematic sessions. We will also schedule a slot for the participants to meet in groups after the paper sessions, as an opportunity to exchange ideas and initiate collaborations, eg. special issues.
Please notify us if you are interested in participating in this second meeting. The abstract submission deadline is on 15 February, and the deadline for submission of papers is on 15 May. We also welcome presentations without paper submissions. Submission to: lina.olsson@mau.se, ozlem.celik@helsinki.fi
Depending on the number of contributions, we may limit the meeting to one or one and a half days, but for now, we schedule these two days.
Best regards,
Lina Olsson, Malmö University, and Özlem Çelik, University of Helsinki
