4th Nordic Urban Political Economy (NUPE) meeting: Nordic Critical Urban Political Economies, Helsinki, 25-26 September 2024

We cordially invite you to join us at NUPE 2024, which will be the third meeting within the network “Nordic Urban Political Economy”. The meeting will take place 25-26 September, 2024 at the University of Helsinki.

We invite papers adopting a critical approach to urban political economy/ecology scrutinising neoliberal urban transformations in the context of the Nordic welfare states at the national, regional and local scales. In this NUPE meeting, we welcome contributions that develop different perspectives toward critical urban political economy in the Nordics. We explore urban political economies in terms of:

  • Conceptual aspects of urban political economy
  • Urban entrepreneurialism
  • Urban techno-monopoly
  • Urban political economy in Nordic cities and beyond
  • Political economy of housing

We also schedule a slot for the participants to meet in groups after the paper sessions, as an opportunity to exchange ideas and initiate collaborations. There will be a city excursion as a part of our meeting.

The abstract submission deadline has been extended to 2 September 2024. Submissions to Google Form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1gc9aE45IY6YqOcZ8u_ODY5z4Tt1MoO-PAmMzIojhjSE/edit

In addition, we anticipate full papers for a more vibrant discussion. You may submit your full papers to be distributed to your session presenters and the chair by sending them to nupenetworking@gmail.com no later than 15 September 2024. Presentations without full papers are also welcome.

Lunches and dinner will be covered for those attending the meeting in Helsinki. Details of the programme will be announced later. For paper presenters, we have a limited budget to cover some of their travel expenses. Those authors who do not have a travel budget will be given priority. Please inform us clearly in the form if you do not have a travel budget. For co-authored papers, we can only cover the travel expenses of one author, and in that case, the author should also be the presenter or one of the presenters.
